Above & Beyond Award, 12/15
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award. The Above & Beyond Award recipient for December is Boca Raton Deputy Brandon Serraes. On November 7th, Deputy Serraes was first on the scene of an apartment fire in Boca Raton. Observing flames coming from the apartment, Deputy Serraes, showing no regard for his own safety, quickly entered and found an elderly woman, who he brought to safety. He then re-entered the apartment and found an elderly man who was on fire. Deputy Serraes picked up the man and carried him outside and down two flights of stairs.
The woman, Ruth Krieger, was transported to Delray Medical Center where she was treated and released. The gentleman, Byron Krieger, was transported to Jackson Memorial Burn Center in Miami where sadly he later succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Byron Krieger was a fencing champion who represented the United States at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics. Byron and Ruth were married for 57 years. Deputy Brandon Serraes, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond! It was special to have Mrs. Ruth Krieger at the awards, and her captivating speech was emotional for all those in attendance. |
