PBCSF Funds Basketball Trip For Local Teen And Coach
A Glades Central High School basketball player recently received the opportunity of a lifetime. 17-year-old Geoffrey Brown, a senior on the Raiders basketball team, was selected by a group of former NBA players to participate in an All-Star camp in Paterson, NJ from August 11-15, 2014. Geoffrey was accompanied by his high school coach, Kenneth Torrence, who is also a Corrections Deputy with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
All of the pair’s travel expenses were covered by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation. A check presentation was held on 8/8/14 at the Boys and Girls Club gym in Belle Glade.
In June, the Ball Stars Youth Camp made a stop at Glades Central High School and, with the help of PBSO, ran a program for about 200 kids. Ball Stars is led by former NBA All-Stars Otis Birdsong and Micheal Ray Richardson. Besides basketball, the camp promotes teamwork, leadership and respect. During the Belle Glade camp, one of the youngsters who really shined was Geoffrey, and he was invited to join other select kids from around the country at the All-Star camp in New Jersey. |
