PBCSF Funds Basketball Trip For Local Teens and Coach
Four Glades-area basketball players recently received the opportunity of a lifetime. Larmar Butler (17, Senior, Pahokee High School), Raheem Alford (15, Sophomore, Glades Central High School), Waymond Jones (14, Sophomore, Glades Central High School) and Jalil Spear (15, Freshman, Crossroads Academy) were selected by a group of former NBA players to participate in an All-Star camp in Paterson, New Jersey from August 10th through the 14th, 2015.
The boys were accompanied by Glades Central High School basketball coach Kenneth Torrence (“Coach T”) who is also a Corrections Deputy with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
All of the travel expenses were covered by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation and the Palm Beach County Police Athletic League. A check presentation was held on 8/7/15 at the Boys and Girls Club gym in Belle Glade.
In July, the Ball Stars Youth Camp made a stop at Glades Central High School and, with the help of PBSO, ran a program for about 200 kids. Ball Stars is led by former NBA All-Stars Otis Birdsong and Micheal Ray Richardson. Besides basketball, the camp promotes teamwork, leadership and respect, and teaches the kids life skills. During the Belle Glade camp, these four youngsters really shined and were invited to join other select kids from around the country at the All-Star camp in New Jersey. |
